Eligibility Criteria

Traditional Programmes

  • General Requirement: Graduate with a minimum of 24 credits in the relevant subject with Major/Honours or Regular Course.
  • Statistics (Additional): If seats remain vacant, graduates with Mathematics and Statistics as subjects will be considered.

Interdisciplinary Programmes

  • Bioengineering & Technology:
    • M.Tech in Bioprocess Technology: B.Tech in Biotechnology/Bioengineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioprocess Technology, Food Process Technology, or Industrial Biotechnology.
    • M.Sc. in Cancer Biology: B.Sc. in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Botany, Zoology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or B.Tech in Biotechnology/Bioengineering with 55% marks.
  • Biotechnology: B.Sc. in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or B.Sc. with Chemistry as a pass course (for Botany/Zoology majors) with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST).
  • Botany (Microbiology): B.Sc. in Agriculture, Biochemistry, Botany, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or Zoology with 24 credits.
  • Performing Arts & Culture: Graduate in any subject with 24 credits.
  • Mass Communication: Graduate in any subject with 24 credits.
  • Computer Science/Information Technology: Graduate with 24 credits in Computer Science, IT, Computer Application, or Computer Science and Engineering, or a science graduate with a 1-year Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science/Application. Minimum pass mark in Mathematics at 10+2 level.
  • Electronics & Communication Technology:
    • Graduate with Major/Honours in Electronics/Physics with 24 credits, or relevant subjects as Pass Course.
    • M.Tech Programmes: B.E/B.Tech in specified fields or M.Sc. in Electronics/Instrumentation with CGPA 5 or 50% marks.
  • Environmental Science, Instrumentation, Law, etc.: Specific graduate degrees with 24 credits or equivalent qualifications.
  • M.Sc. Psychiatric Nursing: B.Sc./Post-basic B.Sc. in Nursing with 55% marks, registered with State Nursing Council, and minimum 1-year work experience.

How to Apply

  1. Online Application:

    • Visit the official Gauhati University admission portal: https://admissions.gauhati.ac.in/.
    • Submit applications for up to three programmes (one from Traditional and two from Interdisciplinary).
    • Ensure the application form is complete and fees are paid online.
  2. Application Fees:

    • One programme: Rs. 800/-
    • Two programmes: Rs. 1600/-
    • Three programmes: Rs. 2400/-
    • Payment is accepted via debit card, credit card, or internet banking. An online receipt will confirm successful payment.
  3. Reserved Quota Applications:

    • For categories like Differently-abled, GU Employees’ kin, Fringe Village, etc., submit a prescribed form with self-attested testimonials to:
      Room No-14, Office of the Secretary University Classes, Gauhati University, Jalukbari, Guwahati-781014 (in person or by post) before the entrance test.
  4. Document Verification:

    • Candidates must produce original documents/certificates during admission. Failure to meet eligibility criteria during verification will lead to cancellation.

Note: Candidates can appear for a maximum of three subjects but must avoid scheduling conflicts (same session, same date).

Selection Procedure

  • Entrance Test: All candidates must appear for PGET-2025 to be eligible for admission.
  • Merit-Based: Selection is based solely on PGET-2025 scores. Higher marks receive preference.
  • Provisional Admission: Admission is provisional until original documents are verified by the respective department.
  • Tie-Breaker: In case of a tie, performance in the last Board/Council/University examination is considered.
  • Eligibility Check: Candidates failing to meet minimum eligibility during document verification will be disqualified.
  • Study Gap: Candidates with a study gap of more than 5 years from their qualifying degree are ineligible.

Seat Reservation Policy

Statutory Reservations

  • Scheduled Caste (SC): 7%
  • Scheduled Tribes (Plains): 10%
  • Scheduled Tribes (Hill): 5%
  • OBC & MOBC: 27% (Non-Creamy Layer only, including community-specific reservations for Ahom, Chutia, Moran, Matak, Koch Rajbongshi, and Tea Tribe).
  • Differently-abled: 3% (with benchmark disability of ≥40%, certified by Joint Director of Health Services).
  • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 10% (certificate issued by Circle Officer required).

Non-Statutory Reservations (Supernumerary)

  • North East India (Excluding Assam): 1-2 seats per department based on intake capacity.
  • GU Employees’ Kin: 1-2 seats per department.
  • Retired GU Employees’ Kin: 5 seats across all departments.
  • Fringe Village: 15 seats for residents of Garigaon, Sadilapur, Katia Dalang, Sundarbari (requires legacy documents).
  • Extra-Curricular & Co-Curricular: 1 seat per department for sports/art/culture proficiency.
  • NCC: 3 seats for state representatives or NCC ‘C’ certificate holders.
  • NSS: 2 seats based on national/state-level NSS achievements.
  • Ex-Defense Personnel’s Kin: 1 seat per department.

Note: Candidates applying under reserved quotas must submit additional forms and certificates. Permanent residents of Assam require a PRC for reserved seats.

Fee Waiver Scheme

  • Eligibility: Students with parental annual income < Rs. 4 lakh from all sources, not employed in State/Central Govt. or undertakings.
  • Applicable Programmes: M.A., M.Sc., M.Com only (excludes M.Lib.I.Sc., M.Tech., MBA, LL.M., and self-financing courses).
  • Documents: Income certificate from Circle Officer or a declaration of non-government employment.
