The APSC is recruiting 50 Forest Rangers under Advertisement No. 22/2025, dated June 16, 2025. The examination will be held in Guwahati, and selected candidates will undergo an 18-month training course to become certified Forest Rangers in the Assam Forest Service.

Note: RFW stands for Reserved for Women. Reservations are as per the draft advertisement received from the Government.

Pay Scale and Benefits

As a Forest Ranger, you’ll enjoy a competitive salary along with additional allowances as per Assam State Government norms:

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Forest Ranger position, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

1. Residency

  • Must be a permanent resident of Assam.
  • Required documents:
    • Valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) issued in Assam for educational purposes, or
    • Employment Exchange Registration Certificate.
  • State Government employees of Assam are exempt from submitting domicile proof but must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer.

2. Physical Standards

Candidates must meet the minimum height and chest girth standards:

3. Educational Qualification

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Science or Engineering from a recognized university with at least one of the following subjects:
    • Agriculture
    • Botany
    • Chemistry
    • Computer Applications/Computer Science
    • Engineering (Agricultural/Chemical/Civil/Computer/Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical)
    • Environmental Science
    • Forestry
    • Geology
    • Horticulture
    • Mathematics
    • Physics
    • Statistics
    • Veterinary Science
    • Zoology

4. Age Limit

  • Minimum: 21 years
  • Maximum: 38 years (as of January 1, 2025)
  • Age Relaxation:
    • SC/ST(P)/ST(H): 5 years (up to 43 years)
    • OBC/MOBC: 3 years (up to 41 years)
  • Age will be calculated based on the Matriculation/HSLC Admit Card issued by a recognized Central/State Board/Council. No other document will be accepted.

  • SC/ST/BPL candidates must upload relevant certificates to claim fee relaxation.
  • Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Applications without the prescribed fee will be rejected.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online through the APSC recruitment portal: https://apscrecruitment.in. Follow these steps:

  1. Register: Visit the APSC recruitment website and click on “Register Here” to create an account using a valid and active email address.
  2. Login: Use your credentials to log in and access live advertisements.
  3. Fill the Form: Click “Apply” to fill out the application form. Ensure all mandatory fields (marked with *) are completed.
  4. Upload Documents:
    • Certificates: Date of Birth, Educational Qualifications, Experience, etc., in PDF/JPEG format (max 200 KB, 200 dpi grayscale).
    • Photograph and Signature: Passport-size photo and signature in JPG/JPEG format (max 200 KB each).
  5. Preview and Submit: Verify all details, check the declaration box, and click “Submit” for final submission. Editing is not allowed post-submission.
  6. Pay Fees: Pay the applicable application and processing fees online. Validate payment if any issues arise.
  7. Confirmation: Receive an auto-generated email confirmation upon successful submission.
  8. Print Application: Take a printout of the submitted application form for your records.

Important Notes

  • Submit only one application. If multiple applications are submitted, only the one with the higher Application Number (complete in all respects, including fees) will be considered.
  • Candidates can apply through Common Service Centers (CSCs) if they lack access to debit cards or internet banking.
  • Submit the application well before the closing date to avoid last-minute issues.

Selection Process

The selection process comprises three stages:

1. Written Examination (600 Marks)

The written exam consists of four papers:

  • Optional Subjects: Choose any two from the list provided under Educational Qualification (one paper per subject).
  • Restriction: Candidates cannot select more than one subject from the following groups:
    • Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary Science
    • Chemical Engineering, Chemistry
    • Computer Applications/Computer Science, Computer Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering
    • Mathematics, Statistics
  • The standard of optional subjects will be equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree.

2. Walking Test and Medical Examination

  • Walking Test:
    • Male: 25 km in 4 hours
    • Female: 16 km in 4 hours
  • Medical Examination: Candidates must pass a medical examination by the Medical Board and produce a health certificate confirming:
    • Sound hearing
    • General physical fitness for rough outdoor work
    • Successful vaccination marks

3. Interview (75 Marks)

Candidates who qualify the walking test and medical examination will be called for a personal interview.

Documents Required at Interview

Candidates must bring the following original documents (with self-attested copies) at the time of the interview:

  • Matriculation/HSLC Admit Card/Pass Certificate for age proof
  • Certificates and Mark Sheets from HSLC onwards
  • Degree/Diploma Certificate or provisional certificate with mark sheets
  • Experience Certificates (if applicable)
  • Caste Certificate (for SC/ST/OBC/MOBC, in Assam Govt. format)
  • BPL Certificate (if applicable, in Assam Govt. format)
  • Declaration Form-A (related to Small Family Norms, downloadable from www.apsc.nic.in)
  • Identity Proof (e.g., PAN Card, Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, Driving License)
  • Declaration from government employees confirming they’ve informed their employer
  • Documentary support for any other claims

Note: False information or tampered documents may lead to disqualification or legal action.

Training and Probation

Selected candidates will be appointed as Forest Rangers on probation and must:

  1. Undergo an 18-month training course at a State Forest Service College as directed by the Government.
  2. Abide by the Entrance and Training Rules (Revised) 2004 for Forest Range Officers.
  3. Execute an agreement and bond for Rs. 6,00,000/- (or as prescribed) to serve the Government diligently.
  4. Deposit Rs. 6,000/- as caution money within 15 days of admission to the training college.
  5. Draw pay and allowances during training, subject to satisfactory progress.
  • On successful completion, candidates will receive a Certificate in Forestry and join as Forest Rangers.
  • Failure to obtain the certificate may lead to withdrawal from the college, with training expenses recovered from the candidate or their sureties.

Points to Note

  • Eligibility Verification: Admission to all stages is provisional and subject to eligibility verification. Non-fulfillment may lead to cancellation.
  • Physical Standards: Candidates must ensure they meet the physical requirements, as these will be verified before appointment.
  • No Withdrawal: Candidature cannot be withdrawn after application submission.
  • Category Changes: No changes to caste/category claims are allowed post-submission.
  • False Information: Providing incorrect or false information may lead to disqualification or penal action.
  • Interview Expenses: APSC does not cover travel or other expenses for interviews.
  • Health Requirements: Candidates must be in sound health and may need to undergo a medical examination.
  • Canvassing: Any form of canvassing will result in disqualification.
  • Results: Final results will be announced on the APSC website or in newspapers. Interim inquiries will not be entertained.
