Navik (General Duty)

Note: Vacancies are distributed across five zones (North, West, East, South, Central). Separate merit lists will be prepared for each zone.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Class 12th passed with Maths and Physics from an education board recognized by the Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE).
  • Age: Born between 01 Aug 2004 and 01 Aug 2008 (both dates inclusive).
  • Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates, if posts are reserved.
  • Medical Standards:
    • Height: Minimum 157 cm (relaxation of 5 cm for candidates from Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Garhwal, Sikkim, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands; 2 cm for Lakshadweep candidates).
    • Chest: Well-proportioned with minimum 5 cm expansion.
    • Weight: Proportionate to height and age (±10% acceptable).
    • Hearing: Normal.
    • Tattoos: Permanent tattoos allowed only on inner forearms (from elbow to wrist) and the back of the hand, except for tribal community candidates.

Navik (Domestic Branch)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification:
    • Class 10th passed from a COBSE-recognized board and a 3- or 4-year Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Electronics/Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering approved by AICTE.
    • OR Class 10th and 12th passed from a COBSE-recognized board and a 2- or 3-year Diploma in the above disciplines approved by AICTE.
    • Equivalent diplomas include:
      Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Electronics/Telecommunication
      Electrical and Electronics (Power System) Marine Engg Advanced Electronics and Communication Engg
      Electrical and Instrumentation Engg Mechanical Engg (Production) Electronics Engg

  • Age: Born between 01 Mar 2004 and 01 Mar 2008 (both dates inclusive).
  • Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates, if posts are reserved.
  • Medical Standards: Same as Navik (GD). Yantrik candidates must bring a provisional diploma certificate (signed by College/University Head) for Stage-II and the original diploma certificate for Stage-III.

How to Apply

Applications are accepted online only through the official website: joinindiancoastguard.cdac.in/cgept. Follow these steps:

  1. Register: Log in with a valid email ID and mobile number. These will be encrypted in the application, so remember them for accessing your dashboard and downloading the E-admit card.
  2. Fill Application: Provide accurate details, including marks for all subjects as per your marksheet. Incorrect or incomplete information will lead to cancellation.
  3. Upload Documents:
    • Stage-I (Mandatory for all):
      • Recent passport-size color photograph (not older than 3 months, light background, no cap/spectacles except for Sikhs).
      • Live image capture during registration for facial matching.
      • Scanned signature.
      • Date of Birth proof (Class 10th marksheet or Birth Certificate).
      • Identity proof (Aadhaar Card preferred, or PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving License, Passport).
      • Domicile Certificate (for Navik GD/DB; for Yantrik if seeking height relaxation).
      • Service Certificate/NOC (for ICG personnel/civilians).
    • Stage-II (If shortlisted):
      • Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-Non Creamy/EWS).
      • Class 10th marksheet and certificate.
      • Class 12th marksheet and certificate (for Navik GD and Yantrik, if applicable).
      • Diploma marksheets and certificate (for Yantrik).
      • CGPA/Grade conversion formula (if applicable).
      • NOC from employer (if applicable).
    • Document Specifications:
      • Size: 50 KB to 150 KB.
      • Format: JPEG/JPG.
      • Validity: Issued on or before 25 June 2025, valid until at least 31 July 2026.
      • Language: English or Hindi (with translations if in other languages).
  4. Pay Examination Fee: ₹300 via net banking, Visa/Master/Maestro/Rupay Credit/Debit Card, or UPI. SC/ST candidates are exempt.
  5. Choose Examination City: Select five preferred cities for Stage-I. Stage-II city and date selection will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Only one application per candidate per post is allowed. Multiple applications will result in only the latest being considered, with no fee refund.

Selection Procedure

The selection process involves four stages:

Stage-I: Computer-Based Online Examination

  • Identity Check: Verify identity with original ID proof, E-admit card, and two passport-size photographs.
  • Biometric Recording: Left thumb (or right thumb if left is not captured). Mehndi or wax on fingers may lead to disqualification.
  • Written Test:

  • Normalization: Marks are normalized using a statistical formula to ensure fairness across shifts.
  • Syllabus: Class 10th for Section I, Class 12th Maths/Physics for Section II, Diploma-level for Sections III-V. Available on the ICG website.

Stage-II: Physical and Assessment Tests

  • Duration: 1-2 days at allocated centers.
  • Tests:
    • Basic Identity Check and Biometric Verification.
    • Assessment Test: OMR-based, qualifying in nature.
    • Physical Fitness Test (PFT): 1.6 km run (7 mins), 20 squat-ups, 10 push-ups (continuous, no breaks).
    • Document Verification: Match online application details with original documents. Discrepancies lead to cancellation.
    • Medical Examination: Conducted by authorized Medical Officers. Unfit candidates can appeal at designated military hospitals.

Stage-III: Final Verification at INS Chilka

  • Duration: 1-2 days.
  • Tests:
    • Aadhaar-Based and Biometric Verification.
    • Document Verification: Same as Stage-II, with additional forms (e.g., police verification, parental willingness).
    • Pre-Enrolment Medicals: Conducted if there’s a significant time gap from Stage-II medicals.
  • Documents Required:
    • Original documents, E-admit card, 30 passport-size photographs, 10 small photographs (3.5 cm x 2.5 cm, blue background), police verification, and other forms (available on ICG website).

Stage-IV: Final Document Verification

  • Original documents submitted at Stage-III are verified through Boards/Universities/State Governments. Non-genuine documents lead to termination.

Note:

  • Merit lists are prepared based on Stage-I marks, Stage-II qualification, and vacancies.
  • Tie-breaking: Higher Section-I marks, then older age.
  • Zone-wise merit lists for Navik (GD/DB); all-India merit list for Yantrik.

Promotion: Up to Pradhan Adhikari/Pradhan Shayak Engineer (₹47,600, Pay Level-8) with Yantrik Pay for Yantriks.

Training

  • Start Date: February 2026 (CGEPT-01/26), July 2026 (CGEPT-02/26) at INS Chilka.
  • Details: Basic training followed by sea and professional training. Unsatisfactory progress or conduct may lead to discharge.
  • Note: False documents or applications result in termination.

General Instructions

  • Eligibility: Candidates withdrawn on disciplinary grounds, arrested, convicted, or with pending criminal cases are ineligible.
  • Examination Rules: No electronic devices allowed. Malpractice or impersonation leads to disqualification and legal action.
  • Document Verification: Multiple checks occur. Discrepancies or invalid documents (e.g., expired certificates) lead to cancellation.
  • Application Tips:
    • Apply early to avoid website issues.
    • Use the edit/correction window (2-3 days post-registration) to fix errors.
    • Ensure Aadhaar-linked mobile number for Stage-III.
  • Travel Allowance: SC/ST candidates (non-government employees) can claim II-class train/bus fare for Stage-I if beyond 30 km, with required documents.
